Pre-Season Tailgate

Its football pre-season! OK, we know it’s not the real deal yet.  But we’re talking about the Hawks here so we get excited when they hit the field.  And this is the time for our beloved Hawks to get ready for the quickly approaching season…and for us to bring back our awesome Stadium Place game day parties!

Not to brag but we were in regular season form for the first Seahawks pre-season game with our tailgate bash! The weather wasn’t a problem for us, residents enjoyed the game in the comfort of the Stadium Lounge with an amazing view of CenturyLink Field!  Of course a tailgate isn’t complete without delicious food…and lots of it! Our tables were stacked with piping hot pizzas and all the fixings for tasty cheesesteak sandwiches.

Pillar Loves Pets: And the Winners are…

The Third Annual Pillar Loves Pets Photo Contest is over and the results are in! Congratulations to Stadium Place residents Bruno and Bacon for winning the Judge’s Choice Award.

Pillar Loves Pets - Bruno and Bacon

This was definitely a tough choice as we adored all of the furry faces, but we just couldn’t resist the looks we were getting from Bruno and Bacon: Are you staring at us or the view behind us? Their humans must be so proud! You may recognize their humans, Bini and Claudine from Evening Magazine…you can spot Bruno and Bacon too!

Wonton & Co., the cool cats living in our sister property The Lyric received the most votes earning the first place prize. Second and third place went to The Century residents Pipo and Oscar. This year the judges had no choice but to award fourth place as well, Enzo from the Corydon was too darn cute!

Pioneer Square’s Best Grilling Tips

4002Fourth of July is almost here and what better way to celebrate Independence day than with a barbecue! Which is why we asked the experts in meats and grilling from around our Pioneer Square to share with us (and you!) everything they know so we can become experts in grilling, too!

Step one: Where to get your meat

To get the best meat for grilling, skip the grocery store and go straight to the butcher. We visited the best butcher shop in Pioneer Square to get an inside scoop on the best meat to grill. But what Joe Harper, an expert butcher at Rainshadow Meats shared is much more than just meat, but also how to prepare and cook it right.

rainshadow_042011_128 rainshadow116

At Rainshadow Meats, they care where their product comes from, which is why they only choose local, small farm, 100% grass-fed meat so you can get the best quality. For Joe, choosing the best cuts depends on what you’re going to do with it, because there are really no bad cuts.

  • Are you making a salad? They have the perfect flat iron skirt steak for it.
  • Do you want a show stopper? Joe suggested their big, bone-in, rib eye steak.
  • Looking for something with a marinade? Joe’s go-to is a sirloin flap because it holds the marinade really well.
  • Making Kebabs? Shoulder pieces are the best for this. Top sirloin is your best option to keep some tenderness.

Rainshadow

Joe explained sometimes the tastiest steak can be simplest to make. By sprinkling salt and pepper and cooking right you can make a mouthwatering steak with little effort. Cooking it right is the tricky part, he says you should first and foremost make the thermometer your best friend. Trying to get the perfect medium-rare steak? Cook it until it reaches 115-120 degrees Fahrenheit then take it off the grill to rest. Joe’s rule of thumb is to let it rest half the total cooking time.

Step two: Know the grilling basics

  • Turn the grill on several minutes before you want to begin grilling. You want the grill nice and hot for when you begin.oil_grill_tip5
  • Grab a paper towel and soak it in oil, grab it with tongs and rub it over the rack to avoid the meat from sticking to the grill.
  • Pat your meat dry with a paper towel before you place it on the grill to get the perfect sear.
  • Grill pans are great for giving the smoky flavor to vegetables and fruits without them falling through the rack.

Step three: Recipes

You have your meat and basic grilling tips, all you need now is a few recipes for your meat to make your BBQ perfect. Here are five of our favorites.babyback-ribs-5

  1. Bacon Bourbon BBQ Chicken Kebabs
  2. Beer Marinated Grilled Steak
  3. Grilled Cilantro Lime BBQ Wings
  4. Grilled Veggies: Zucchini, Carrot, Mushroom and Peppers
  5. Chipotle Baby Back Ribs

Seattle Pride Weekend

Seattle Pride 2015 was a community-loving celebration that had all Seattleites beaming with pride. You could see pride flags flying all over our neighborhood, town and event the entire state.

We joined in, too! We had the pleasure Friday morning of having two of our residents raise our pride flag atop The Wave for the Seattle Pride weekend.

They were as excited as we were to have them raise it. We are thrilled to have had the opportunity of sharing this incredible moment with our residents. Thank you Ben and Elliott for being part of the Stadium Place family.

And rest assured, this will become a yearly tradition!

Pillar Loves Pets Yappy Hour

sp8

Pillar Loves Pets is slowly winding down, but not before we had a chance to host an all-about-pets event for our residents! The adorable pets of The Nolo and The Wave were the center of attention at our Yappy Hour and they knew it too! They took every opportunity to be loved, spoiled and fed ridiculous amounts of treats!

Anticipation was high for both residents and pets.  One even tweeted us as her two dogs were patiently waiting for the clock to hit 6 p.m. to kick off our event! Can you almost hear them saying “when do we get to go play?”

We partnered with David, owner of Pioneer Pet Feed and Supply to bring a variety of natural and tasty treats for the pups.  He also prepared some amazing giveaways and a chance to spin the wheel to win goodie bags with all kinds of treats and pet food. To top it all off, Evangers, one of David’s suppliers, donated and raffled off a year’s worth of pet food for a lucky dog or cat!

It was such a lovely afternoon, you could feel the excitement and playfulness of every pet and owner there. The pets got a chance to roll around, jump on and play with other furry friends! While their owners got a chance to savor wine and appetizers, and be entertained by watching their dogs enjoy themselves.sp7

These dogs got in some much deserved play time.sp10

So what’s next for Pillar Loves Pets? Our photo contest is still in full swing! There are lots of adorable entries, and now we are onto the voting round . If you entered the contest, this is the time for your cat or dog (or hedgehog – someone actually entered a photo of their hedgehog!) to shine and you can help them by inviting your friends, family and neighbors to vote for your pet’s photo until July 10.

Even if you don’t have a pet in the contest, you can still help us pick the best pet photo by scrolling through the entries to vote for your favorite one! Plus, we hear that looking a cute pet photos can increase your productivity. So what are you waiting for? Time to get voting!

Helping Out the Hood: Pioneer Square Spring Clean

It’s Spring clean time! Or at least it was a couple of weekends ago in Pioneer Square. Something we absolutely love here at Stadium Place is being part of our neighborhood, whether that’s by partnering with local businesses, promoting local vendors or joining a good cause in the neighborhood. Which is why when we heard that Alliance for Pioneer Square was putting on their annual Pioneer Square Spring Clean, our team could not pass up the opportunity to roll up our sleeves and help out again this year!

We joined our neighbors, community leaders, and other business owners and gathered bright and early at Occidental Park to help make our neighborhood an even more beautiful place to live.

Our team got their hands dirty weeding, pickup up garbage and painting out graffiti.  It’s not glamorous work but it was lots of fun to be out with our neighbors making our community beautiful!
