Seattle Pride Weekend

Seattle Pride 2015 was a community-loving celebration that had all Seattleites beaming with pride. You could see pride flags flying all over our neighborhood, town and event the entire state.

We joined in, too! We had the pleasure Friday morning of having two of our residents raise our pride flag atop The Wave for the Seattle Pride weekend.

They were as excited as we were to have them raise it. We are thrilled to have had the opportunity of sharing this incredible moment with our residents. Thank you Ben and Elliott for being part of the Stadium Place family.

And rest assured, this will become a yearly tradition!

Pillar Loves Pets Yappy Hour

sp8

Pillar Loves Pets is slowly winding down, but not before we had a chance to host an all-about-pets event for our residents! The adorable pets of The Nolo and The Wave were the center of attention at our Yappy Hour and they knew it too! They took every opportunity to be loved, spoiled and fed ridiculous amounts of treats!

Anticipation was high for both residents and pets.  One even tweeted us as her two dogs were patiently waiting for the clock to hit 6 p.m. to kick off our event! Can you almost hear them saying “when do we get to go play?”

We partnered with David, owner of Pioneer Pet Feed and Supply to bring a variety of natural and tasty treats for the pups.  He also prepared some amazing giveaways and a chance to spin the wheel to win goodie bags with all kinds of treats and pet food. To top it all off, Evangers, one of David’s suppliers, donated and raffled off a year’s worth of pet food for a lucky dog or cat!

It was such a lovely afternoon, you could feel the excitement and playfulness of every pet and owner there. The pets got a chance to roll around, jump on and play with other furry friends! While their owners got a chance to savor wine and appetizers, and be entertained by watching their dogs enjoy themselves.sp7

These dogs got in some much deserved play time.sp10

So what’s next for Pillar Loves Pets? Our photo contest is still in full swing! There are lots of adorable entries, and now we are onto the voting round . If you entered the contest, this is the time for your cat or dog (or hedgehog – someone actually entered a photo of their hedgehog!) to shine and you can help them by inviting your friends, family and neighbors to vote for your pet’s photo until July 10.

Even if you don’t have a pet in the contest, you can still help us pick the best pet photo by scrolling through the entries to vote for your favorite one! Plus, we hear that looking a cute pet photos can increase your productivity. So what are you waiting for? Time to get voting!

Pillar Properties Named Tops in the Nation for Resident Satisfaction!

National-Award-Company-2014-2-300x94

Our teams are constantly focused on customer service at Pillar Properties.  Its the cornerstone of our mission – to provide what we call a ‘quietly awesome’ experience for our residents.  That means our teams work diligently behind the scenes to make sure the experience inside our properties matches residents lifestyles, needs and expectations.  Being quietly awesome is a focus for everything we do and it is the guiding light of our customer service team.

That’s why we are especially proud to receive the SatisFacts 2014 National Resident Satisfaction Award for 2014.  SatisFacts is a national company that works with more than a million apartment dwellers annually to gauge their experiences.  We are thrilled that of the nearly 300 property management companies across the country, Pillar Properties is ranked in the top three!*

“Seeing Pillar Properties recognized with this award is exceptional but I can humbly say I am not surprised,” said Billy Pettit, senior vice president for Pillar Properties.  “This all comes back to the teams at each of our properties – The Lyric, The Wave and The Nolo at Stadium Place, The Century, The Corydon and The 101.  They are deeply committed to making our properties a special place to live and they are clearly succeeding.”

SatisFacts surveys all residents annually and again anytime a resident moves in, has a maintenance request or moves out. Based on those surveys, Pillar Properties also received an Exceptional Company Award (score of 4.5 or higher of 5.0) for resident satisfaction.  You can see the awards and rankings here.

“This awards shows us that our teams are responding to our resident’s needs and that’s what truly matters to us. We focus every day on ensuring that our property teams are quick to address any issues that arise for our residents.  That’s what makes Pillar Properties different from other property owners and that’s what being quietly awesome is all about,” said Pettit.

SatisFacts is the apartment industry retention and reputation management authority, working with hundreds of management companies and more than a million apartment units nationally.  You can learn more about the company here.

Three Steps to Go Green this New Year

Happy New Year!

Stadium Place and Pillar Properties, we join you in caring about the impact we have on the environment. Our New Year’s resolution is to become even more environmentally friendly, and we have some information to share that will help you do the same.

Our timing is good because the City of Seattle is enforcing a new garbage law starting January 1, requiring all Seattle residents to compost and recycle. You can read more about that here.

Many of us associate being ‘green’ with recycling. But there are actually three steps: reduce, reuse and then recycle.

  1. Reduce:

Reducing the impact you have on the environment can be very simple, by just changing some small things in your daily life. Here are some easy ideas you can adopt:

  • Look for products with compostable packaging (such as Cedar Grove) or suggest that your local stores use compostable products.
  • Reduce the number of disposable items in your household (see #2 for ideas.)
  • Donate your unwanted items to your local Goodwill, rather than throwing them away.
  • Compost as much as you can. Here are some helpful tips:
    • Obtain a compost bucket and bags to compost food scraps at home.
    • Ask one of our team members for a compost bucket and where to dispose of your compost when your bucket is full.
    • The image below shows you what can be composted, for a list of compostable items, click here.

  1. Reuse:

Reusing may require you to think outside of the box. Sometimes you may have to go the extra mile, but it will pay off by saving you money and energy. Here are some ideas on how to reuse your items:

  • Instead of throwing it away, reuse it. Here are five things we should never throw away and how to reuse them.
  • Save over 544,000 trees by replacing your virgin fiber paper towels with 100% recycled ones.
  • Even better, here are three ways to replace disposable products in your kitchen. Tip: if you can’t live without disposable paper towels or napkins, be sure to compost them.
  • Tired of paying for your grocery bags at the store? Do you have unwanted old t-shirts laying around? Here is a tutorial on how to make your own reusable, no-sew t-shirt tote bags. Tip: put your reusable bags in the car so you never forget them.
  • Purchase a reusable water bottle, instead of bottled water.

  1. Recycle:

Recycling is the most common practice of all three steps for many, but the reality is, there is more to recycling than throwing an aluminum can in the recycling bin. Here is how you can do more:

  • When possible, purchase items made of recycled materials by looking for the recycle sign on packaging.
  • Purchase items with little to no packaging.
  • Bring your own mug for coffee/tea to reduce paper cup waste.
  • There are many household items that can be recycled that we aren’t aware of. Here is a list of ten things you didn’t know you could recycle.

Easy Tips to Refresh Your Apartment for 2015

Join a gym, eat more vegetables, get a promotion…paint the living room? The beginning of a new year often centers on changes and improvements, but typically the focus is on ourselves—our health, our relationships, our jobs. When writing our list of resolutions, we tend to forget one of the most important parts of ourselves: our homes.

Regardless of whether we have a good day or a bad day, our home is where we spend our time. The environment we live in is critical to our success, so why not give the apartment a few updates this year? Try these “home improvements” to start 2015 feeling fresh, recharged, and ready to take on your resolutions.

Move it around
One of the easiest, quickest ways to change your environment is rearranging your furniture. Maybe try a new angle for your bed, move your couches around or try creating feng shui in your living room.

Update the color
It may be time to try a new color on your walls—look into fun removable wallpaper, find a new paint shade or create an accent wall. Pick a color or design that will give you energy.

Add some new pops of color
If you’re not ready for new colors on your wall, add pops of color where you can. Adding a new rug, bringing in some exotic plants, or finding fun throws and pillows are easy color additions.

Change the little details
If you’re looking for even smaller changes, find the little details in your apartment. Replace the knobs on your dressers or kitchen cabinets, find new prints for your wall decor, or swap in new photos for your frames.

Expand the space
Similar to adding new details, you can update your apartment by removing details to create space. End the year by de-cluttering unnecessary items or collecting donations for your local Goodwill. You can also expand the space in your rooms with new mirrors.

Give it an upgrade
If you really want to up the ante this year, add some fun tech and home products to improve your productivity. Easy gadgets include a Broom Groomer to help you clean, a Smart Dashboard to stay up-to-date, a Space Bar Monitor to organize your desk, and an Over-the-Door Drying Rack to maximize space.

Have Yourself a White Christmas

You can watch the weather channel tirelessly.  You can try doing the “snow dance.”  You can play “Let It Snow” on repeat.  You can close your eyes and make a wish.  Try as you might, a snowy landscape can be hard to come by in the Pacific Northwest.  Rather than keep peeking out your window each morning in hopes of some flakes, you can make your own snow scene.  Gather a few supplies ahead of time and you’ll be ready to make your own White Christmas this year.  Get ready for your apartment to become transformed into a winter wonderland.

Make your own snow
Try some new spins to the classic paper snowflake patterns.  If you have a hot glue gun, you can create your own unique snowflake formations to decorate your windows.  Or roll up some paper into these gorgeous quill snowflakes to hang around your apartment.

Eat some snow
A snow day is not complete without closing your eyes, poking your tongue out, and catching some delightful flakes.  You can make your own edible snow by decorating fluffy white meringue snowflakes or baking powdery Russian Tea Cakes.

Build a snowman
You can pass on the freezing toes and wet gloves, but still build your very own Frosty.  All you need is some paper and scissors to take over your door with a fun paper snowman craft.  If you’re partial to creating in the kitchen, build these delicious melting snowman cookies.

Sip a frosty cocktail
Since you won’t be cold from playing outside, you can instead warm up with some boozy cocktails.  Sip the flavors of winter with this Coconut Cream Martini or create a frosty concoction with this Vodka Snowflake Cocktail.  Cheers!

Add some winter décor
If your apartment has some extra mason jars available, you’re prepared to build some fun winter crafts.  Gather some Epsom salt to add piles of snow to your candles or build your very own snow globes!
